Creating the Duke Military Alumni Network featuring Sanford's Patrick Nevins '07, M.P.P.'16

Ever wonder how the Duke Military Alumni Network came to exist? Check out this feature from the Sanford School of Public Policy to learn more about how Patrick Nevins '07, M.P.P.'16 and Seth Brown '09, M.B.A.'17, M.P.P.'17 noticed a disconnect in Duke's military support circles and found a way to establish a stronger veteran community across the institution.

Cue the creation of the Duke Military Alumni Network,  a one-stop shop for Duke veterans looking to network, socialize, and find community. Building upon the grassroots work that fellow veterans had done to foster a sense of community, Nevins and Brown co-founded the group from the ground up during their graduate programs. In addition to being an online resource, the group plans and hosts networking happy hours, football tailgate, and other opportunities for veteran alumni to connect. They also work with the Office of Student Veterans to deliberately seek ways to increase veteran representation within the undergraduate population. Given Duke's close proximity to numerous military bases throughout the state, the group wants to help Duke actively recruit veterans for undergraduate studies.

Special thanks to Nevins, Brown, and all of our military alumni for their service to both our country and Duke. We look forward to seeing all of the opportunities that our Duke Military Alumni Network offer to support and connect our military alumni in the future.
