Dear Friends and Alumni of the Buddhist Meditation Community at Duke,
We hope that all of you are doing well, despite the ongoing pandemic. Over the past several months, we have been organizing an alumni affinity group with the Duke Alumni Association. Our new group, somewhat awkwardly named, “Duke Meditation, Mindfulness, and Buddhist Alumni” (see <Duke Meditation, Mindfulness, & Buddhism Alumni>), will be holding its first alumni get-together in conjunction with the alumni virtual reunion, which is taking place April 12–17.
Our virtual BMCD/Duke Meditation, Mindfulness, and Buddhist Alumni gathering is scheduled to take place on Monday, April 12, 9–10:30 pm EST. (We have chosen that somewhat late time on the US East Coast to accommodate alums on the West Coast of the USA and in Asia.) Attending the informal gathering will be three of our Buddhist chaplains: Wakoh Shannon Hickey, Sumi Kim, and, our current chaplain, Francesca Morfesis, as well as many alumni participants of the Buddhist Meditation Community at Duke from all over the world.
We apologize for the short notice of this event but hope many of you will be able to attend. This will be a great time to catch up with friends of BMCD and alumni interested in Buddhism, mindfulness, and meditation, while meeting the three chaplains who have guided the BMCD. To attend, please register for the Reunion Week at <https://rsvp.duke.edu/event/08023f0e-5c18-4183-a330-29d75b34ffa1/summary> and RSVP to Shian-Ling Keng at <kshianling@gmail.com>. Once we have more specific login information, we will send that to you. Please sign up for our affinity group, even if you cannot attend this year, as we plan to hold similar events during each alumni reunion season.
We hope to see you all on Monday evening, April 12, 9–10:30 pm.
(Note: The above time translates to:
April 12, 9am-10:30am Singapore/ Malaysia/ Beijing time
April 12, 6pm-7:30pm Pacific Standard time / California time)
With Warm Regards,
Shian-Ling Keng, Francesca Morfesis, and Richard Jaffe
