This Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, DBA DC will be partnering with City Year for a day of service in honor of Dr. King’s legacy of service to others. City Year considers MLK Day a day ‘on’ not ‘off’. Each Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, City Year mobilizes its 3,300 corps members and thousands more volunteers for a day of service in communities across the nation. In coordination with local partners, City Year AmeriCorps members and volunteers engage in service projects that include painting schools, beautifying neighborhoods and parks, serving in soup kitchens, supporting senior citizens, and running educational activities for children.

This year we are working to beautify the Shaw/Truxton Circle Neighborhood in Northwest DC; including Friendship Public Charter School at Armstrong Elementary School, KIPP DC Shaw, and Walker Jones Education Campus. Service projects will include painting murals and accents, light construction, organization, kit-making and workshops for youth and community members.
