PWILD 50th Reunion

Come one, come all to the 50th PWILD reunion, commemorating the original “Project” which led to so many other experiential learning opportunities for incoming Duke students.

Dates: September 20-22, 2024

Location: Camp Carolina, Brevard, NC

At the 40th reunion in 2014, many people from every decade attended the reunion at Camp Chestnut and even some Duke celebrities who were instrumental in the founding years!

This year for the 50th, we are going back to the mountains near Asheville – to commemorate and celebrate. Make plans to attend, register by filling out this Google Form and make your payment.

As we think about this upcoming September, we are having many fond memories of our friends and adventures, our learnings and ponderings from those years at Duke – as staff either leading or supporting the Spring Trip or the Summer Trip or the Ropes course or other PWILD activities.  The lifelong skills, attitudes, friendships are still with us and we are so excited to have this unique opportunity to come together to tell stories and spend time together.

Please sign up as soon as possible! We are so excited and know it will be an amazing time – and right next to Pisgah!

The weekend is planned with fun, gatherings, time to share . . . but we do need your help to make it happen!

Let us know by clicking below and giving your thoughts . . . then join/lead a planning call!

Make plans to attend, register by filling out this Google Form, and make your payment.

Truly in Service,

Kathy, Dave, Tom, Doug, Michele

Description of the Camp

The Camp facility has many cabins and spaces for activities, a kitchen, a lake, a climbing wall, and much more. It is located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains near Brevard, NC.

The Camp has many ‘summer cabins’ which are essentially a roof and a screen. Down the path from the cabins are bathhouses with showers and restrooms. There are a limited number of “Delux Rustic Cabin” spots which include an indoor shower and AC. If you are needing a “Delux Rustic Cabin” spot due to allergies or other situation, please let us know as soon as possible, there is an additional $50 cost for this. There are 28 spots.

The base cost for the weekend is $200 per person which includes the following:

-         Camping/Summer Cabin/Camp Facilities for Friday and Saturday night

-         Activities Friday through Sunday

-         Meals - 2 Dinners, 2 Breakfasts, 2 Lunches

Scholarships and Discounts are available. Reach out to Doug Kelly – Douglasaustinkelly@yahoo.com. Send Doug a note and he will work with you to defray whatever aspect of the cost you need help with. On the flip side, if you can support the Reunion by donating additional funds, please do. We anticipate we will need some donations to be sure we break even and leave the next reunion committee with funds for start-up.

**Please note that this is not an AED sponsored event so the AED refund policy is not applicable. Please contact the group for refund questions.**
