The Duke Exclusive offers local alumni and university guests the chance to experience one of a kind educational excursions only Duke can offer. Alumni Education in partnership with the Washington Duke Inn and Golf Club provide a variety of half-day Forever Learning experiences throughout the year. Previous programs have explored the stories, sights and studies found at Sarah P. Duke Gardens and the Duke Lemur Center. Come take a look at some of Duke’s most intriguing places through The Duke Exclusive.

From the Allen Building Takeover to Today on February 5, 2019

Join fellow alumni, family, and friends for a meaningful morning as we look back at February 13, 1969, better known as the Allen Building Takeover. With our host, the Mary Lou Williams Center for Black Culture, we will discover what came of the 13 demands students made during that fateful sit-in and how this protest helped to shape Duke today. What to Expect

We provide breakfast and lunch catered by the Washington Duke InnEach program has small-group educational lectures and behind-the-scenes tours with experts from our excursion site. While guests provide their own transportation, we provide breakfast and lunch catered by the Washington Duke Inn. The program schedule runs from 8:30 AM – 1:30 PM, and begins and concludes at the Washington Duke Inn.

Participant Physical Requirements
The physical demands of this program are light, but often include walking on uneven terrain or stairs and standing during our tour portions of the program. Prospective participants with mobility difficulties or health concerns should make preliminary inquiries before signing up for this program.
