A new residence hall on West Campus will experiment with a fresh housing model that could become the template for the way the university approaches living environments in the future. Construction of the 150-bed dormitory, which will complete the quadrangle in Keohane Quad, is scheduled to begin in May and is on line to be completed by January 2012.

The residence hall, nicknamed K4, will be split into two houses, one with ninety beds and the other with sixty. The houses will feature a larger number of single-bed rooms and suites meant to attract more juniors and seniors. The building will also better connect Edens Quad with the rest of West Campus, administrators say.

The size and setup of each house is aimed at encouraging interaction among classes by being small yet diverse, and K4 could end up influencing the design of residences on the planned New Campus.
