Discover Bulgaria, with its mix of East and West, rugged mountains and Black Sea coast; and Romania, home of crenellated castles and fabled Transylvania.  This exceptional 17-day small group tour begins in historic Sofia.  Visit the Boyana Church and Rila Monastery, both UNESCO sites.  Experience a folkloric performance and a cooking class.  After discovering culturally rich Plovdiv with its charming old town, take in the Black Sea resort of Varna.  Witness history at more UNESCO sites: Nessebar, the Madara Rock Horseman, and Ivanovo’s Rock-Hewn Churches.  Bucharest sightseeing includes the Palace of Parliament, the Choral Temple, and the Great Synagogue.  Explore lovely Sighisoara in Romania’s storied Transylvania region.  Enjoy a private organ concert.  In Brasov, visit legendary Bran Castle, once believed to be Count Dracula’s lair.  Encounter UNESCO’s Transylvania historic site of medieval villages.  Returning to Bucharest, stop at exquisite Peles Castle and Snagov Monastery, Vlad the Impaler’s reputed burial site.
