Board nomination qualifications

Interested in joining a Duke board? Ideal candidates have prior volunteer experience with Duke and typically start at local levels, expanding their involvement over time. Nominating committees carefully review all recommendations.

Duke boards are diverse and individually focused, each with distinct goals. Qualifications for board positions may include specific expertise, volunteer experience, and philanthropic support. Review each board's nomination criteria to learn more.

2025-2026 Board Nominations are now open. 

We are now accepting nominations for the Duke Alumni Board of Directors, Regional Boards and Women’s Forum Steering Committees — dedicated groups of volunteer leaders who represent Duke’s global alumni community and help guide alumni engagement where they live. 

Nominations for the Duke Alumni Board are due January 16, 2026. Nominations for the Regional Boards and Women’s Forum Steering Committees are due Friday, February 6, 2026.
