Frequently asked questions: Regional groups

Do I need to sign up for my regional alumni group?

Your mailing address will automatically sign you up to receive emails and invitations to regional events. Confirm your address is up-to-date by clicking "Edit my profile" in your profile navigation bar, followed by “Contact information” in the sidebar and finally “Addresses.”

I frequently work in a city I don’t live in, or split my time between multiple cities. Can I join more than one regional group?

Yes!

What if my region is not listed on the Regional Groups page?

The groups page represents all the regions that have established volunteer leaders and organize regular alumni events. Regions that are not listed on this page may not have a large alumni presence. If you would like to see more alumni activities where you live, contact regional@daa.duke.edu .

Why am I not receiving emails for local events from my regional group?

Check  your profile, and click the "My Groups" option found in the "My Actions" bar. Confirm your profile is updated to see the groups of which you are a member are accurately displayed and we have the correct email address for you. All regional emails will be sent to that email address.

How do I stop receiving e-mails from my regional group?

All emails sent through Duke systems will contain an "unsubscribe" option in their footer. To leave the membership of a specific group, go to your profile and click the "My Groups" option found in the "My Actions" bar. You can select the group you wish to leave by clicking the option "Hide Me" or the option "Leave Group". For email communication purposes, both choices operate the same.

Frequently asked questions: Affinity groups

Who can join an affinity or interest group?

Affinity membership and participation is open to all Duke alumni, regardless of race, color, national origin, sex or gender identity, sexual orientation or religion. All alumni and allies are welcome in all communities.

How can I get involved in affinity leadership opportunities?

Alumni are encouraged to nominate themselves or others for an affinity board during the open board nomination period each winter (December-February). Visit our Volunteer Leadership page for more information.

How can I stay updated on the latest affinity announcements, events and programming?

Join the affinity communities of your choice within the Duke Alumni Network, and you will receive updates and invitations via email. Make sure we have your current email address.

How can I help or mentor students and/or recent grads?

Alumni can ask or answer questions through  Ask a Blue Devil, our online mentoring tool that connects alumni and students with fellow Blue Devils for quick advice. Keep your contact information updated on your Duke Alumni Network profile and check the ‘Contact Me About’ options so that advice-seekers know how to reach you.
