Aboard National Geographic Quest
Panama is famous for its iconic canal, a marvel of engineering. A highlight of our expedition, The Panama Canal, Pearl Islands, and Darién Jungle, is sailing this legendary waterway. With special permission, the 50-cabin National Geographic Quest overnights in the canal zone, offering a rare glimpse of its operations by day and its illuminated beauty by night.
Beyond the canal, Panama boasts diverse natural and cultural treasures. Its rainforest supplies the freshwater essential for the locks, supporting rich wildlife like howler monkeys, sloths, and nearly 400 bird species. This journey also takes you to lesser-seen parts of Panama, from the Spanish colonial fortresses of Portobelo to the remote Darién, where you'll meet Emberá village leaders. Explore the Pearl Islands by kayak and snorkel while uncovering their deep ties to the pearl trade.
