How You Can Help First-Gen Students Find Jobs & Internship

We continue to engage with our FGLI community in ways that are creating a deeper understanding of how we as a group can provide meaningful support.

One of the big gaps between first-gen/low-income students and their non-FGLI peers is the access to connections that help them navigate the process for finding jobs and internships. You can help us narrow that gap by becoming a champion for students during their search.

Following are several ways you can help (with varying degrees of commitment based on how much time you can commit):

1. Send us the details of open jobs and internships at your company

2. Provide feedback on an applicant's resume or cover letter

3. Offer advice or an informational interview to interested students

4. Recommend a student to those who are hiring at your company

5. Direct students to temporary housing options in your area

Please submit this form if you can help.

Internships give students exposure to different fields as they start to consider the best path to a satisfying career.  In most cases of course, there is also a need to meet the financial aid summer earnings requirement.

Thank you for your support of our students!  If you are interested in being more involved with Duke First, please let us know.
